Nautical Cake Smash

A great Idea for baby photo shoot.

A Every time I get an inquiry from someone about a cake smash session I get  truly excited! This was especially true for this nautical cake smash session. This baby’s mom had some unique ideas for her baby photo shoot. She knew she wanted a nautical cake smash theme. A nautical inspired theme was a first for me.  I wanted to incorporate the nautical theme.  I didn’t want the props to be to distracting from the main subject of these photos, her sweet baby boy. We actually had to re-schedule our session to wait for the baby boy’s sailor outfit to arrive and I’m so glad we did! I just love how cute this baby looks in his sailor outfit!

Cake smash sessions are my favourite for a variety of reasons. The main one being the babies themselves. I find that 11-12 month olds are a real joy to photograph. As anyone who has or has had a baby knows they are the ones who are in control. Let me repeat that. THEY ARE THE ONES IN CONTROL! What does this mean for me? Well it means that all the photos I take are a true reflection of them. They reflect the emotions and reactions they are experiencing. They don’t hide or pretend with their emotions. If I want them to smile I need to actually make them smile (often with the help of the parents). Also emotions can change from one moment to the next. In the end we are able to capture a wide variety of expressions in a short period of time.
